Couva East Secondary School celebrated 60 years since it was established with a sports day which consisted of staff and students. The weeks leading to it were filled with team spirit and unity of the school through tug of war, the road race and inter-house football. Where houses Sapphire, Amethyst, Topaz, Ruby, and Amber desperately fought to earn the most points based on placement in the categories. In tug of war Topaz was at the top with Sapphire trailing behind, Ruby had third place, Amber not far behind and Amethyst taking the last spot.
Amethyst did not take it likely as they pushed hard and took the march past by storm taking the top spot with Amber not too far behind and ruby in the third spot, Ruby third and sapphire at the bottom. This was not their most glorious moment but it was definitely compensated for as they took the top spot in the road race with Amber second and Topaz third with Amethyst lading right behind leaving ruby in the last spot. This was again the case at the sports day activities as ruby took the last spot, Amber and Amethyst tied for third, Sapphire in second place and Topaz at the top.
This years sports day broke the stigma of topaz being at the bottom of the food chain. The inter-house football left everyone at the edge of their seats as we saw the true talent from the boys and girls of various houses. Amber had both talent and strategy which lead them to take victory with Amethyst not far
behind, Topaz taking third, Ruby forth and Sapphire in last place.
The events totaled with two tied places which were Amber and topaz sharing the top of the podium, Sapphire and Amethyst sharing second which put Ruby at the bottom. Sports day ended with lots of memories created, unity amongst students and real school spirit in the air.
